1) Interval Training. This is a fantastic way to burn calories, this is what to do. Get on a treadmill and after a couple of minutes warm-up do two minutes running at 90% effort then follow this with 1 minute at 50% effort. Try to keep repeating this cycle for a minimum of twenty minutes. Not only is this going to dramatically increase your aerobic fitness, it will also give your metabolism a massive boost that will ensure your body keeps burning through those calories well after the workout has finished.
2) Weight training sessions. Two or three times every week try to do a weight training session. The reason for that is that muscle tissue needs more calories to keep it functioning properly than fat tissue does. This actually means that the greater the amount of muscle you have the greater the number of calories you will use up even when you are resting. Make sure you include the major compound exercises such as squats, bench presses, pull-ups and dead lifts; these will give your metabolic rate a real boost!
3) Walk. A brisk walk about the local park, walk home from the shops, in the hills with or without a dog is very simple yet highly effective way to burn calories. They are perfect for people who don’t like going to the gym or doing intense exercise sessions and have the added advantage of being very relaxing enabling you to gather your thoughts somewhat.
4) Swim/row/run or in fact do anything exercise you like just make it a part of your routine. The main point o grasp is that you have to be doing some form of exercise, the more intense the better however some is better than none. Swimming is a great way to get around the problem of jarring your joints that often occurs in some activities.
5) Do some sports. Get involved with a local sports team or club. Anything will do, try and rediscover an old passion that you used to have. Why not play some badminton, squash , volleyball in fact anything you like really. Being part of a team is very motivating in that you don’t want to let your mates down and exercise can start to feel like fun and not a chore.
