Lose 20 pounds in a week!?!?!?

Hello-
Have you seen the ads that claim you can “lose 20 pounds in a week”?
Do you believe them?
Shame on you!
You CANNOT lose 20 pounds in a week. Each pound of fat consists of 3500 calories. You would need to burn 70,000 calories MORE than you take in in one week to burn off 20 pounds of fat. Your body needs a certain number of calories just to keep you alive each day, and if you try and burn significantly more than that, you’re going to do some damage to your body.
I’ve read numerous articles or questions on Yahoo Answers about many people wanting to try and lose 20 pounds in a week or sometimes even more than that in a very short period of time, usually to get ready for school or prom or some other activity where they want to look their best.
You will do more harm to your body than good by trying to drastically drop your weight by that much in such a short period of time.
Get out of thinking that you can lose 10, 20, 30 pounds or more in less than a month.
It’s not healthy.
More than likely you did not gain all those pounds in a short period of time so why would you expect to drop them so fast?
Aim for a more gradual approach to weight loss and you’ll be much happier with the results and you’ll be able to maintain them as well.
Because what good is losing 20 pounds in a week and looking good for one date when the next month you’ll be back to your regular weight if not weighing more and looking worse?
Will they still like you then?
Let me know what you think.

Umm.. I get where youre coming from, and yeah, these diets arent healthy, but I went on a self mandated diet. I started cutting out the soda and greasy food and drank water, and ate a salad every day. I lost 17 pounds in two weeks!! I was shocked. I just wanted to be healthier, and lose a few pounds….
So, YES, you can.
