The Alkaline diet, or the acid alkaline diet, as it is often called, can be considered a procedure of eating the proper foods in order to keep your body free of all kinds of diseases and illness. Basically it is a theory that when we eat or consume a food, after several processes like digestion, metabolism and others, it leaves an alkaline residue or acid residue, which determines the acid-alkaline nature of our body.

The pH of our body is between 7.35 to 7.44 which is slightly alkaline and this is the base of alkaline diet theory. So this should also be followed in our body and diet. Severe problems could be caused if this acid-alkaline balance is disturbed. The pH scale measures the acid or alkaline nature of a liquid. It ranges from 0 (very strong acid) to 14 (very strong alkaline). Water is neutral and has a pH of 7. A pH below 7 shows acid things, as we go down, becoming strong acidic, and pH above seven represents alkaline products, intensity increasing as we go up to 14.

Although this theory is not generally acknowledged by medical societies, it has roots in almost every kind of medical study. To maintain this balance of the body, one has to use diets which are rich in alkalinity (60%). One have to use highly alkaline diets (80%) is the balance of his/her body is disturbed by the extensive use of meat, eggs, cream and other acidic foods.

Vegetables, low fat fruits, nuts, tubers fresh citrus and other things should be preferred when talking about alkaline diets. When talking about fruits, they are mostly rich in alkalinity and can be used as a good source of increasing alkalinity in the body. A very few number of fruit are acidic. When eating fruits for this purpose, do not eat canned, or sugared or preserved fruits, because they become highly acidic when preserved due to the use of different chemicals.

Vegetables are also a good source for making the body alkaline, and are highly recommended in the alkaline diet theory. Many of the conventional doctors do not believe that eating vegetables instead of meat and eggs could be very useful, they just concentrate on the use of meat to gain energy for the body, but if this meat becomes an acid-forming agent in the body, you will feel weakness instead of power.

Vegetables like carrot, cauliflower, tomatoes and some others can be used not only cooked, but also without cooking as all vegetables and especially green vegetables are very good source of alkaline. These vegetables not only provide you with a lot of minerals but are also very good in taste. Minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium are the real source of alkaline ash and are very good for the growth and functioning of the body. Our body is turned from acidic to slightly alkaline when these minerals react with the acid present in out body.
