William Hay, an American doctor, created the Hay diet within the early 1920s. He thought that correct food combining was vital. Protein foods requiring an acidic digestive environment lose the alkaline environment required for carbs. The root of Dr. Hay’s rules was that carbohydrates and proteins should not be eaten with each other.
Doctor Hay analyzed this area with a special interest since he was identified with a nasty kidney illness and at the same time suffered from a distended heart. After his findings in this area he reduced his weight from 225 pounds to 175 pounds and quickly his heard condition was almost normal.
