There are quite a few different types of mold that can grow in a building, but the most dangerous is the toxic mold, hence its name. Toxic mold can grow almost anywhere in your home, and so it is important for all homeowners to realize just how dangerous this toxic mold can be and what they do if they ever spot growth in their home.

Removal of the Mold

When it comes to the actual toxic mold removal, this is a process that no homeowner should attempt to take on themselves. As you are not a professional so even if you do your research it is not safe for you to go near the mold or try to get rid of it. Many people believe in the myth that wiping Javex bleach over the mold will be enough but this is just a myth and nothing more.

The biggest problem when homeowners try to remove toxic mold themselves is that they think they are cleaning it properly when all they are really doing is opening up the mold spores so they will be inhaling them even more.

This is why it is so crucial that any homeowner dealing with this dangerous type of mold hire a professional company to come in and do the job for them. You may not even have to pay anything as there are certain companies out there that are free for hire and which have an expert team who are going to come in and take care of the mold problem for you.

Just make sure that you choose a business that has lots of experience, so you know that they are going to come in and get the job done right. The last thing you want is an inexperienced team who is going to come into your home and tell you they have removed the mold when they really have not.

Toxic mold is never a fun thing to deal with, but as long as you spot the growth early on and report it and have it taken care of, you really have nothing to worry about and can carry on with your everyday life once the mold is completely removed from your home.

You never want your children or pets to be around this type of mold especially because their little immune systems cannot handle it and they could end up getting very sick and potentially even dying.

Looking For Mold

Looking for mold may not seem like something you want to do in your spare time but it is necessary for successful mold removal. Knowing where to look for mold will help you to get rid of all molds in your home. Anything made from organic materials is a breeding ground for mold.

So check paper, wood, dirt, and soap scum for mold. The mold problem can be caused by all these materials we have around the house. Look in areas that have been affected by leaks, water stains can often point you towards mold growth. These are all areas you want to look at when you are about to start mold removal.

The Removal Process

The removal process is fairly simple, start by dampening the area you wish to start mold removal on. This will stop the mold spores from flying away and continuing to affect your home. The mold should be scrubed with a soap or detergent that does not have ammonia in it. Don’t be tempted to mix bleach with ammonia, this actually produces toxic fumes that can be fatal. Plain vinegar is also a good thing in order to remove the mold.

Once you have scrubbed down a surface that has been affected by mold you need to disinfect the area. Bleach is necessary for this, mix the bleach with water when disinfecting. You should use about a quarter or half a cup of bleach into one gallon of water while disinfecting an area. The last step is to rinse the surface with clean water and quickly dry it.

Once you have completed mold removal you need to eliminate anything that causes moisture and dampness in your home. Investing in a good air filter or humidifier is also a good idea to reduce mold spores in your home. This will not solve the problem if the source of moisture is still in the house.
